Milagai killi potta sambar recipe is a simple sambar made with green chilies and dry red chilies. In this particular  recipe we don't use any vegetables. 




This milagai sambar is unique, easy and quick version sambar. In this particular sambar we don't use any spice powder but i have added little sambar powder for extra taste. So its optional only, you can make this chili sambar without adding any spice powder excluding turmeric powder. red chilies and green chilies give unique flavor to this sambar. 

The taste of this chili sambar is fantastic, this recipe goes well with idli, dosa and also white rice.

Cooking Time : 20mins

Ingredients

 

Toor dal – 1/2cup

Gingelly oil – 3tsp

Mustard seed – 1/2tsp

Curry leaves few

Onion – 1

Tomato – 1

Salt

Hing powder pinch

Dry red chilli – 5

Green chilli – 4

Tamarind – small seize

Sambar powder – 1 tsp

Coriander leaves few

Turmeric powder – 1/4tsp

Water – 2cups

 




Method


  •  Wash Soaked dal and put it in a pressure cooker.
  •  Add 4 garlic
  •  pressure cook for 5whistle
  •  Once the dal is cooked , mash it nicely.
  •  Now heat a kadai 
  •  Add gingelly oil(taste will excellent)
  •  Add mustard seeds and fenugreek and let it splutter
  •  Next add curry leaves
  •  Add Dry red chili and green chilies.
  •  Fry for few seconds
  •  Now add onion or shallots
  •  Cook for few mins
  •  Add Hing powder and salt
  •  Add tomato and mix well
  •  Cook for few mins till tomato cook well
  •  Now add tamarind water(tamarind small size)
  •  Add turmeric powder and sambar powder
  •  Cook for few mins
  •  Next add cooked dal and mix it well
  •  Cook for 5mins
  •  Finally add Coriander leaves. 


NOTE

 Tip  No 1 : Whenever Cook dal in a pressure cook  always place a small vessel above the dal so that while  cooking  dal  in a pressure cooker, dal water will not come out of the cooker  so we can save the dal water into the small vessel. This saved dal water can use for rasam or for this sambar recipe.  


            Tip No 2 : Always soak tamarind in a hot water  for 10mins so that tamarind will get soaked quickly and tamarind extract juice will be very thick. 



PICTORIAL

 Add turmeric powder


add  sambar powder

 Cook for few mins


 Next add cooked dal and mix it well
 Cook for 5mins



 Finally add Coriander leaves.
